Scar filler procedures are generally well-tolerated and considered safe medical aesthetic interventions; however, as with all injectable treatments, certain temporary side effects may occur.

The most commonly observed side effect following the procedure is diffuse erythema (redness) in the treated area. The duration of this erythema varies depending on individual factors, but in most patients it resolves within approximately 2 weeks. In some cases, longer recovery periods exceeding 1 month may be observed, and very rarely, this duration may extend up to 2 months. Regardless of its duration, this erythema is transient and does not result in permanent hyperpigmentation or residual staining.

Another frequently observed side effect is edema. This swelling develops due to multiple needle entry points during the injection process and is commonly seen in nearly all patients. It typically subsides significantly within 12–13 days. Therefore, the earliest appropriate time to reliably evaluate the clinical outcome of a single scar filler session is considered to be day 14 post-procedure.

In the early post-procedural period, a temporary elevated or raised appearance in the scar areas may also be observed. This is primarily related to edema and usually resolves after the second week. In rare cases, it may persist for up to 1 month. If this raised appearance continues beyond 1 month, excess filler material can be easily and safely corrected with microinjections of hyaluronidase.

In conclusion, the side effects observed after scar filler treatment are largely temporary and manageable; with appropriate technique and proper patient follow-up, they can be effectively controlled, supporting a favorable safety profile for the procedure.
